Polestar expects to sell approximately 80,000 electric vehicles in 2023 after enjoying a record 2022.
Last year, the Swedish car manufacturer sold roughly 51,500 vehicles around the world, roughly 21,000 of which were sold in the fourth quarter. This represents an 80 percent increase year-on-year, making 2022 the best year enjoyed by Polestar in its short existence.
Sales are tipped to climb a further 60 percent throughout 2023 which should bring them as high as 80,000 units.
“I’m proud of the many milestones we achieved in 2022 and in particular the massive team effort that went into delivering our strongest quarter to date – surpassing our 50,000 global volumes target for the year,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said in a statement. “We are now fully focused on 2023. There will be the usual quarterly variations, but I’m confident that we will continue to actively manage our supply chain to meet the growing demand for Polestar 2, commence first deliveries of Polestar 3 and launch Polestar 4.”

The Polestar 3 is shaping up to be a particularly important vehicle for the company’s global expansion. It is much more expensive and premium than the current Polestar 2 sedan and positioned as a rival to traditional SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne as well as all-electric alternatives such as the Rivian R1S.
Entry-level Polestar 3 models come fitted with a pair of electric motors that produce a combined 483 hp and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque. Those seeking some extra grunt can opt for the Power Pack which is good for 510 hp and 671 lb-ft (910 Nm), resulting in a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.7 seconds.
