The Porsche Taycan range will soon receive a more powerful and more track-focused variant that may give the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire something to worry about.
We had our first opportunity to see a prototype of the new electric Porsche flagship in October 2022 when it was being driven by race driver Lars Kern around the Nurburgring. At the time, little was known about the modifications made to the car, other than the obvious fact that it was adorned with some new aerodynamic components.

Now, a fresh set of spy shots have emerged of the car undergoing winter testing near the Arctic Circle. It is also now being claimed that the EV is pumping out in excess of 1,000 hp, giving it significantly more power than the current Taycan Turbo S. The car’s main rivals, the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, pump out 1,020 hp and 1,200+ hp respectively.
We don’t yet have any details about the new model’s powertrain but it seems probable that just like the Tesla and Lucid, it will sport a third electric motor to achieve the four-figure horsepower rating. To put this into perspective, the current Turbo S is good for up to 750 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque.
Much like the prototype we saw last August, this test car also has plenty of aerodynamic upgrades. These changes start at the front end with a new bumper and splitter, complete with pronounced flics on either side. Porsche has also extended the side skirts of the EV while out in the back is a fixed rear wing. To have a bit of fun with the prototype, Porsche’s engineers have also stuck on a Volkswagen TDI badge.
No release date has been confirmed for the new 1,000 hp Porsche Taycan but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it unveiled in the second half of this year.
