Renault is celebrating the Twingo’s 30th anniversary by launching a campaign that asks the public to help reinvent the model with the help of artificial intelligence.

The campaign runs from February 1st to March 31st and fans will be able to “create, imagine and reinvent” the Twingo using image generators such as Dall‑E, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion.  As Renault explained, users can simply type in a few keywords and their creation will then be brought to life even if it’s a flying Twingo or one made of chocolate.

Renault Calls Fans To Create AI-Generated Twingos, Will Build A Real-Life Concept

Fans can then submit their designs using the #ReinventTwingo hashtag on the social media platform of their choosing.  Renault is keen to see what the public comes up with as they’ll build a real-life concept based on one of the creations.  The company says this will make them the “first automotive manufacturer to combine artificial and human intelligence in the design of a show car.”

Renault’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, Arnaud Belloni, remarked “Once solely available for the elites in tech, artificial intelligence is now open to everyone in just three clicks.”  He added, the technology “enables everyone to unlock the power of their imagination” and said the company wants to “pay homage to the iconic Twingo by giving everyone the opportunity to take part in the creative process.”

The campaign is kind of wacky, but artificial intelligence holds real promise for the automotive industry.  Audi is using the technology to help create new wheel designs, while Renault has incorporated AI into “visual checks as part of the production line, enabling greater reactivity and enhanced quality at plants.”
