Cosworth announced today that it has taken its first foray into the sim racing world, and will produce a version of its popular steering for virtual racers.
The CCW MkII Pro Sim wheel was announced this week at the Autosport International motorsport event in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The legendary engineering firm has partnered with SIMTAG, a Belgian manufacturer of professional-grade simulation racing equipment, for this project.
The wheel is based on the CCW Mk2 steering wheel. The Pro Sim version will be almost identical to the real deal, which is used in a variety of racing series, but is perhaps best known as the spec steering wheel for the IndyCar racing series.

Like that wheel, the sim version will be made of carbon fiber, and will feature the same button layout. That means 10 push button switches with rubber guards, four 12-position rotary dials, and two 12-position thumb dials. It also means a 4.3-inch display and 10 LEDs that help you know when to shift.
“This is a historic moment for Cosworth. It’s our very first product sim racing product, utilizing our decades of experience in motorsport electronics,” Stefan Balkowiec, Managing Director of Cosworth Electronics, told Traxion. “Sim racers the opportunity to have a genuine Cosworth wheel with identical functionality to the motorsport version of the CCW Mk2 at home for use on their favorite sim racing titles.”
In addition to making components such as steering wheels for racecars, Cosworth is well known for its engineering. The firm is behind the engines that will power the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50, meaning that sim racing is just the latest venture for the storied brand.
Unfortunately, pricing information and availability have not yet been announced by Cosworth.
