Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has revealed that volume production of the long-awaited Cybertruck won’t start until 2024.
During Tesla’s Q4 quarterly earnings call, Musk stated that Tesla hopes to begin Cybertruck production this summer but noted things will start off slow before ramping up.
“We do expect production to start sometime this summer,” he confirmed. “But I always try and downplay the start of production because start of production is always very slow.”
Musk added that volume production will commence in 2024 but didn’t give a precise timeline on when. Regardless of when volume production starts, Tesla apparently has over 1.5 million pre-orders of the Cybertruck to deal with, so for those awaiting delivery, the sooner volume production begins, the better.

“Tesla has made false promises about the Cybertruck before, but if the company has ever needed to ramp up a timeline for an anticipated product, it’s now,” executive director of insights at Edmunds, Jessica Caldwell told Auto News. “The Cybertruck almost seems like old news since the company has been talking about it for so long.”
Curiously, Tesla has yet to reveal any images of the Cybertruck in production guise, nor has it announced final specifications and prices. However, in late October, a photo did emerge from inside a Tesla facility that showed the rear of a Cybertruck, complete with a new taillight design consisting of small lights on the outer edges, a central light in the center of the fascia, and reversing lights on either side of the license plate.
