Tesla’s stock may have been battered throughout 2022 but last year still turned out to be the best for the carmaker when it came to deliveries and production volumes.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, Tesla set a new internal record by producing 439,701 vehicles and delivering 405,278 units. This easily beat the automaker’s previous record for deliveries of 343,830 which was set in Q3.
Unsurprisingly, the Model 3 and Model Y continue to make up the vast majority of deliveries, accounting for 388,131 units in Q4. The remaining 17,147 vehicles delivered to customers were the Model S and Model X.

As for 2022 as a whole, Tesla produced 1.37 million vehicles and delivered 1.31 million units, representing a 40 per cent increase in deliveries year-over-year.
Tesla and chief executive Elon Musk have previously said that Tesla is on track to increase deliveries by 50 per cent year-over-year, most recently making this claim in its third-quarter shareholder presentation, CNBC reports.
“Over a multi-year horizon we expect to achieve 50% average annual growth in vehicle deliveries,” Tesla wrote. “The rate of growth will depend on our equipment capacity, factory uptime, operational efficiency and the capacity and stability of the supply chain.”
Record production and delivery figures in Q4 came despite Tesla briefly halting production at its factory in Shanghai. The car manufacturer also offered generous discounts to buyers in markets including the United States, United Kingdom, and China to help encourage sales.
Moving forward, Tesla is in a good position to reap the benefits from the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act due to its large production output in the United States.
