Taking a car to the shop is often an unnerving experience. Many customers report a lack of trust in repair shops and anxiety about being upsold unnecessary services. Still, not every experience is a bad one and we want to hear some of your best experiences when you’ve taken a car in for service.
Not long ago we asked about the other side of that coin so if you’ve got an absolute horror story don’t be afraid to share it in the comment section of this post. Today though, we’re focused on the positive side of taking a car to get worked on. Sometimes a skilled mechanic can make for a great shop experience.
In my time running a repair shop, I can remember countless examples of techs that were so skilled that we could charge customers hundreds less than we initially quoted them because the tech managed to save time, materials, or both during the job. Those customers left happy I’m sure.

At other times it was the service provided by the front-end staff that made all the difference. Great communication about the timeline and cost of repairs can make even an expensive trip to the shop a lot more bearable. On top of that, a service writer that can accurately and effectively translate between a mechanic and a customer can make for a better experience too.
Maybe your best experience at a repair shop didn’t cost you anything. Some places will check your battery, your alignment, your check engine light, or other items on your vehicle for free. And sometimes, the results of those actions can save you lots of cash. Other places will even offer small but free installation services. For example, at my shop, we’d install wiper blades, light bulbs, or batteries free of charge (so long as they weren’t ridiculously hard jobs).
Regardless of what your best experience is, we’d like to hear about it. So drop us a comment below and we’ll highlight the best experiences in a future post.
