Sports cars are more refined than they’ve ever been. In fact, almost every mainstream, premium, and luxury brand offers at least one if not multiple sports cars in their portfolio. With so many options to choose from, that leaves a number that are surely overrated. Which one is the most overrated though?

The new Nissan GT-R was just introduced at Tokyo Auto Salon and to say that it hasn’t made a huge splash might be an understatement. Sure, it’s still very fast, and despite wearing just about the same suit it has for a decade, it’s still sporty looking. But we expect pricing for the top trim to again be north of $200,000. That’s a lot of cash for a car that’s old enough to drive.

Still, the most overrated sports car might need to go to something that’s not as capable of blistering performance as the GT-R most certainly is. What do you think of the BMW Z4? It’s got decent driving dynamics and lovely engines but with a base price north of $50k it doesn’t feel like a stunning deal when the Supra exists.

If I had to choose I think I’d pick on the Volkswagen Golf R. Sure, it’s not slow in a straight line but it’s a complete cluster beyond that. It feels over-priced, under-equipped, and is still prone to gobs of understeer. Those feelings got even more intense after driving the GR Corolla last year.

Now for the rules of our competition, there are none aside from it being new and a sports car. Let’s be clear, if you submit an SUV or a van or a truck then of course, those won’t count. Other than the very obvious examples of a car that couldn’t be considered a sports car, we’re good. That includes coupes, hatchbacks, roadsters, sedans, and wagons too. So tell us, which new sports car is the most overrated on the market?
