We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to most of us, some colors just clash. That idea is at the center of today’s question of the day. Which new car has the worst color combination of exterior paint and interior upholstery?
We’d typically start off with a few options that sit well within range of most people. The truth though is that most mainstream brands keep their offerings limited to such an extent that clashing colors are hard to find. Frankly, that comes down to a dramatic lack of interior colorway options across much of the market.
Many automakers offer only a single dark color palette for the interior of many models. Those who offer more than one sometimes only offer changes to stitching color or a simple light and dark option. By doing this, they often make it hard to end up with a seriously ugly combo but we think we’ve found a few.

Chevrolet will let you add different colors all over the place on your new Corvette. To that end, we managed to slap down yellow stripes on top of red paint before adding blue upholstery all over the cabin. It’s truly horrible and at the same time, we love that Chevy is willing to build it at all.
For $161k, BMW will build us a 2023 XM with blue paint, gold accents, and an orange leather interior. We can even equip it with red calipers just to make sure that nothing really matches or meshes well across this gargantuan SUV.
It might not surprise you either to know that BMW’s pint-sized brand MINI also has some pretty clashy color schemes available. The Cooper S for example comes in nine different exterior colors and at the same time has eight different interior colors available. That means that you can pair Zesty Yellow, Chili Red, or Island Blue Metallic with Chesterfield Leather in Malt Brown.
Still, you might know of far worse color combinations. If there’s any rule about answers here it’s this one, paint to sample colors and completely custom cars can be submitted. However, they won’t necessarily be considered as bad as those that any one of us can order from the factory with a terrible color combo. What’s the worst you know of?
