The world of all-electric three-row SUVs is set to soon grow with the launch of the 2024 Kia EV9 and while we did get a first unobstructed look at it yesterday, our spies spotted another camouflaged prototype.
It’s worth noting that our spy photographers have snapped the EV9 testing on a handful of occasions in the past. What’s more, Kia itself has released a bunch of official images showing a camouflaged prototype being put through its paces.
The design of the EV9 will be influenced by the concept of the same name that was introduced back in 2021. Indeed, we can see that the taillights of this prototype appear almost identical, forming upside-down C-shapes while also having a vertical element that runs up the D-pillar.
The headlights of this prototype aren’t as visible due to the heavy body cladding. However, we can see that the main headlamp unit will be thicker and more prominent than the EV9 Concept. Making this prototype all the more intriguing is the fact that it has digital wing mirrors.
Watch: 2024 Kia EV9 Spotted In Public Undisguised, Production Electric SUV Mirrors Concept
A low-resolution video recently emerged out of Santiago, Chile that appeared to show a fully-undisguised prototype of the new Kia EV9. If the video is genuine and it does indeed show the production model, Kia has done a remarkable job of remaining true to the striking design of the concept.
Beyond its design, we know the EV9 will be based on an elongated version of the E-GMP architecture. A recent leak suggests that it will start at $56,000 in the U.S. and come with an electric motor producing 200 hp and 250 lb-ft (383 Nm) of torque while offering 220 miles (356 km) of range. Four other trim levels are said to be in the works, including a flagship model starting at $73,000 and complete with 400 hp, 480 lb-ft (651 Nm), and a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs (2,041 kg).
