Ram’s U.S. lineup is pretty straight forward as they offer commercial vans as well as 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups.

However, the brand’s lineup is far more interesting south of the boarder as they offer a Strada-based 700 and a Toro-based 1000.

Yet another pickup is in the works and it’s expected to adopt the 1200 moniker, which was previously used on a rebadged Mitsubishi Triton. As the name suggests, the truck will be positioned above the 700 and 1000, while still slotting below the full-size 1500.

These are the best photos of the truck to date, but the prototype remains heavily camouflaged and doesn’t reveal much other than a glimpse at its wide grille, circular headlights, and relatively generous wheelbase.  That being said, the model was spotted while tested alongside the Fiat Toro and we can see that it will be larger than its corporate cousin.

While the truck’s design is still a mystery, the model will reportedly ride on the Small Wide 4×4 LWB platform that underpins the Jeep Compass and Commander.  Engine options are expected to be shared with the latter and this means we can expect a 1.3-liter Turbo Flex engine with 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 199  lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque.  It could be joined by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel developing 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque.

The 1200 isn’t expected to be offered stateside, but Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. has previously said a mid-size truck is under consideration and dealers could be shown a concept this year.
