Toyota is boasting about the “serious spaciousness” that will exist in its next new model, the 2024 Grand Highlander. In its latest teaser, the automaker promises that even the SUV’s third row will be big enough for adults to sit comfortably in.
The “Grand Highlander is the active family cruiser fit for everything from short excursions to cross-country adventures,” wrote Toyota in a teaser today. “With a spacious third row with ample legroom for adults and children, coupled with enough cargo space to fit seven pieces of luggage in the back – the freshly designed, three-row SUV is fully functional for the road ahead.”
Set to be unveiled in a week’s time, the Grand Highlander is expected to be based on an expanded version of the platform that underpins the Highlander to offer more interior volume for bigger families. Billed as the “perfect addition” to the Toyota lineup, the SUV will bridge the gap between its smaller sibling and the body-on-frame Sequoia.

First officially announced in December, Toyota also shared a teaser photo of the SUV’s rear end at the time. That revealed that the Grand Highlander will feature its own unique styling, with its name written across a trim element under the Toyota badge.
In addition, its taillights will differ from the Highlander’s. Made up of two thin elements forming a C, the lighting elements will help give the Grand Highlander its own look.
Toyota’s first teaser also revealed that the Platinum trim will be offered with a “Hybrid Max” powertrain. That name has been used before, on the Crown Platinum, which pairs a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four with an electric motor for improved torque. Together, they combine to make 340 hp (254 kW / 345 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.
We will find out for sure if that same powertrain will be offered on the Grand Highlander on February 8, when Toyota fully unveils the new SUV.
