As plush and luxurious as a car may be, Carlex Design will always find a way to make it more striking and exclusive. It has done just that with a new Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
The Polish tuner dubs its creation the GLS Gold & Mint and evidently, the owner of the SUV really wanted to make a statement with it. As such, the exterior has been re-sprayed in a bright shade of mint green that is contrasted with black across the hood, roof, and pillars. Carlex then finished the front grille, side sills, and multi-spoke wheels in gold paint.
Then we get to the interior. Few would say that the Mercedes-Maybach GLS needs any alterations made to its cabin but Carlex decided to re-trim virtually every single component in mint green leather to match the exterior finish. Parts clad in this new leather include the seats, door panels, dashboard and transmission tunnel. Adding to the exclusive feel of the cabin is the complex quilted stitching and black piping found across the seats.
Watch: Can The Mercedes-Maybach GLS Take On The Bentley Bentayga And Rolls-Royce Cullinan?
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC launched in the U.S. in late December 2020 priced from $160,500 excluding a $1,050 destination and delivery fee. While that makes it significantly more expensive than a ‘regular’ GLS model, it does means it is about half the price of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan and roughly the same as a Bentley Bentayga Hybrid.
Powering the SUV is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 pumping out 550 hp and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque. This engine is supplemented by a mild-hybrid system with an EQ Boost starter generator pumping out an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque, allowing the GLS to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.8 seconds and continue through to a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed.
