2023 is shaping up to be the year of the mid-size truck as Chevrolet and GMC are launching redesigned versions of the Colorado and Canyon, while Ford and Toyota are gearing up to introduce the new Ranger and Tacoma.
We’ll have more to say about the Colorado in our upcoming review, but we recently talked trucks and brought up the possibility of an expanded lineup. While “nothing is off the table,” officials wouldn’t say whether or not there could be new additions in the future.
However, it’s not hard to imagine the Colorado lineup could potentially grow to include a luxurious High Country trim like on the Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban. That remains to be seen, but a potential High Country variant could echo the GMC Canyon Denali which sports unique exterior styling as well as an upgraded interior with a larger digital instrument cluster, heated and ventilated leather front seats, and laser etched open-pore wood trim.

Getting back to the competition, Chevrolet is “extremely confident” in the Colorado as the company listened to customers and created a well-equipped truck that starts at $29,200 before a $1,495 destination charge. While the entry-level Colorado WT rides on 17-inch steelies, the cabin is refreshingly high-tech as it sports an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment system with Google integration. Buyers will also find power windows and locks, a push-button ignition, remote keyless entry, and a six-speaker audio system.
Other highlights include an assortment of standard driver assistance systems as well as a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and 259 lb-ft (351 Nm) of torque. Two other versions of the engine are also available and they produce up to 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque.
