SUVs and crossovers are all the rage these days thanks to their above-average practicality. One 1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon up for auction might be the better buy right now though. Not only is it highly practical but it also comes with an LS3 V8 and a bucket full of horsepower.
Wagons went out of style in the USA quite a while ago. Modern SUVs and crossovers offer similar everyday usability but also include a higher seating position that many drivers prefer. At the same time, this Roadmaster isn’t a bad choice for someone who loves horsepower and an old-school driving character.
Under the hood is a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 factory-rated at 430 hp (320 kW) and 424 lb-ft (574 Nm) of torque. It sends that herd of ponies to the rear wheels only through a 4L65E four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Take a listen to it doing a full-speed pass below.

Let’s be clear that this isn’t even a very impractical choice for someone in the market for a vehicle with SUV-like qualities. No, it objectively won’t be amazing off-road but will most crossovers and SUVs be a ton better? Possibly not. On the plus side, it has a lot of awesome features that SUV buyers probably want.
For example, did you notice the rear-facing bench seat that expands occupant capacity from five to eight? Those rear-facing seats even have grab handles on each interior d-pillar and a little storage cubby too. On top of that, the Roadmaster comes complete with a functional “magic tailgate” that both drops like a truck tailgate and swings from the driver’s side hinge too.
Of course, the real reason you’d want to buy this Roadmaster is because it’s just so damn cool. It’s available right now over on Bring A Trailer with a current maximum bid of $22,500.
