On March 1st, Elon Musk is going to announce his third ‘Master Plan’ surrounding sustainable energy. Expectations are that he’ll focus heavily on scaling production and improving supply during Tesla’s first Investor Day. The announcement comes at a time when parts of Musk’s previous master plans have yet to see fulfillment.

The embattled CEO announced the news on Twitter. “Master Plan 3, the path to a fully sustainable energy future for Earth will be presented on March 1. The future is bright!”, he wrote. That day is the one set for Tesla’s first Investor Day and it’ll be held in person at Giga Texas in Austin.

Last year, Musk told those at the automaker’s annual shareholder meeting that scaling production and the supply chain would be major parts of his third master plan. At the same time, we can expect news of the next generation of Tesla vehicles. Musk has already said that the upcoming platform could halve the cost of production for Tesla.

The announcement will likely include information on capital allocation, long-term expansion plans, new factory sites, and more. Still, it’s worth pointing out that Musk’s master plans of the past aren’t totally fulfilled at this point in time. Master plan one largely went over well though. Musk built a sports car that ultimately helped fund the company we know as Tesla today.

It’s Master Plan Part Deux, released by Musk in 2016, that still looks pretty unfinished. In it, he proposed that the brand would expand heavily into solar roofing, expand the automotive lineup into all major segments, and achieve “true self-driving.”

Those aspects of the plan still fall woefully short of completion. Solar roofing hasn’t taken off the way Musk seemed certain it would, Tesla is far behind other automakers when it comes to segments like pickup trucks or entry-level compact cars, and to put it lightly, true self-driving, the type Musk talked about where people can safely sleep during their commute, isn’t even close to reality at this point. Well, at least not the “safely” part.

Nevertheless, we’re excited to see what Musk and the team at Tesla have on offer when March 1st rolls around.
