Hot on the heels of Ford announcing a return to the Formula One grid through a partnership with Red Bull Racing, the company has revealed that it is already working with the racing outfit on a new electric vehicle.
At a media event to celebrate the partnership, as well as unveil Red Bull Racing’s livery for the 2023 F1 season, Ford chief executive Jim Farley revealed that Red Bull Racing has been charged with handling the aerodynamics of an important new EV.
“I was in a recent review with probably our most strategically important EV, and I turned to my skunkworks team that are developing this in secret, and I asked, ‘Hey, who’s doing the aero on this?’” Farley told Motor Trend. “And he turns to me and says, ‘Oh, they’re from Red Bull. Formula One. ‘”

Unfortunately, Farley failed to provide any additional information about the vehicle, leaving us with little to no idea about what EV he is referring to. The magazine uggests it could be anything from a Mustang Mach-E Coupe to an electric Lincoln, an electric Bronco, an F-150 Lightning Raptor, or perhaps even an electric Ranger. For what it’s worth, our spies caught a mystery vehicle outside Ford’s Dearborn facilities last week, though we have no information on what that car could be.
News of Ford’s partnership with Red Rull Racing came late last week. The car manufacturer will join the driver and constructors’ World Champions starting in 2026 until at least 2030. In addition to the Red Bull Powertrains-built engines being branded as Ford engines, the carmaker will develop the next-generation hybrid power unit for Red Bull Racing and its sister team, Scuderia AlphaTauri.
“It’s fantastic to be welcoming Ford back into Formula 1 through this partnership,” Oracle Red Bull Racing Team principal and chief executive Christian Horner said at the time of the announcement. “They are a manufacturer rich in motoring history that spans generations. From Jim Clark to Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, the lineage speaks for itself. For us as Red Bull Powertrains to open the next chapter of that dynasty, as Red Bull Ford, is tremendously exciting.”
