Ford is returning to Formula 1, but that wasn’t the only interesting thing the company revealed today. Quite the opposite as Ford Performance appears to be working on an extreme F-150 Lightning.
Details are limited, but the automaker showed a slide depicting “EV Performance Demonstrators” including the SuperVan, Mustang Mach-E 1400, and Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. The slide also showed the F-100 Eluminator concept and a darkened truck that is “coming soon.”

It’s likely based on the F-150 Lightning as the model is electric and we can tell it’s not a Ranger, because that truck is depicted above in the Off-Road/Dirt category. There’s no word on what the company has up their sleeve, but the Extended Range variant is already pretty quick as it can scoot from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than four seconds thanks to its dual-motor all-wheel drive system that develops 580 hp (433 kW / 588 PS) and 775 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque.
Ford CEO Jim Farley alluded to the upcoming model as he said, “We are entering an exciting new age for Ford Performance.” After noting the company is set to compete in everything from NASCAR to the King of Hammers, Farley stated “All the while, we’ll continue to excite the world with cool demonstrators like SuperVan 4 and Mustang Mach-E 1400.”
Those models never went into production and its possible the high-performance F-150 Lightning could have the same fate.
