The Genesis GV80 Coupe prototype has been photographed in Europe for the very first time. Sporting heavy camouflage, the upcoming Genesis is expected to expand the automaker’s SUV lineup.
Although it’s still covered in a thick layer of shrouding that attempts to disguise it, there is just enough of the vehicle exposed to see that the roofline gently slopes down at the back. That suggests that Genesis is looking to build itself a rival for the likes of the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and others.
The older spy photos from Korea revealed that the model benefits from updated, Genesis G90-style headlights with two ornately designed lighting elements per side. That suggests that the new body style will arrive when the automaker updates the standard GV80, which is expected to be in 2024.

Although the GV80 was only introduced in the U.S. in 2021, it has been on sale in Korea since 2020, meaning that a 2024 range refresh makes sense. Unfortunately, that also suggests that American buyers will still have to wait a while before they can get their hands on the GV80 Coupe.
As an extension of the GV80, the new model is expected to share the same powertrains. In the U.S., the SUV is currently offered with either a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four or a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, which make 300 hp (224 kW/304 PS) and 375 hp (280 kW/380 PS), respectively.
The GV80 proved to be Genesis’ second-best-selling vehicle in 2022, just behind the more affordable GV70, nearly outselling all of its sedans combined. Adding an option that could tempt even more buyers to the brand, then, will likely be a welcome move.
