Chinese automaker Hongqi is gearing up to launch yet another SUV and this is our first chance to see it in the flesh. Dubbed the HS6, it takes the form of a three-row SUV and will be positioned between the Hongqi HS5 and HS7.

Photos of the new HS6 confirm that it will have a design very similar to pre-existing Hongqi models. For example, the front end of the SUV is dominated by a grille so massive that it makes those from Rolls-Royce seem small. This grille has prominent silver slates running vertically and like all other Hongqi models, has a piece of red trim running from the center of the grille and up the hood.

The headlights of the HS6 are similar in shape to other Hongqi vehicles and incorporate LED daytime running lights that stretch down and alongside the hood. Other elements of the front fascia include a silver chin spoiler and additional headlamps toward the outer edges of the bumper.

The sides of the HS6 aren’t particularly remarkable but your eyes may be drawn to the subtle design details on the D-pillars. As for the rear, it makes quite the impression thanks to smoked taillights, an LED light bar, and a prominent strip of chrome running next to the light bar.

Local media has confirmed that the Hongqi HS6 is 4,995 mm (196.6 inches) long, 1,960 mm (77.1 inches) wide, and has a height of 1,760 mm (69.2 inches). It also comes with a 2,920 mm (114.9 inch) wheelbase and will be available in three-row configuration with six or seven seats. Hongqi will also sell it in two-row guise with either five or four seats. The SUV has a curb weight of 2,080 kg (4,585 lbs).

Just a single engine will be offered for the SUV, namely a 2.0-liter turbocharged for-cylinder producing 241 hp. It’s not yet clear what transmission the HS6 has nor how many driven wheels it has.

The Hongqi HS6 will make its public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April.
