The new era of Maserati will include bespoke models based on its product range, joining the growing trend of one-off and few-off builds among high-end automakers. Maserati also plans on launching more special editions of its models, answering the need for extra exclusivity from its client base.

Maserati already offers plenty of personalization options through its dedicated Fuoriserie program, similar to Bentley’s Mulliner division, Lamborghini’s Ad Personam, and the Q by Aston Martin. As proven by its rivals, bespoke builds are becoming increasingly popular – and profitable – prompting Maserati to enter the game. After all, the Italian brand has a rich history with coachbuilt models, and many iconic nameplates from its illustrious past wait to be reborn.

Maserati Is Ready To Build A Few One-Off Models For Its Best Customers
The Maserati Project24 – a limited-production track-only hypercar based on the MC20 – is likely the first sample of the new strategy.

Davide Danesin, Chief Engineer at Maserati, confirmed to Top Gear that the future of the brand includes “customer-led bespoke builds”. Danesis didn’t go into specifics, but he mentioned limited-production hypercars like the Ferrari Daytona SP3 and the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, creating high expectations.

Reading between the lines, future one-off or few-off models from Maserati will likely be based on the MC20 or the recently revealed GranTurismo, although the upcoming EV-only successors of the Levante and Quattroporte can’t be excluded from the equation. We expect the special models to feature uniquely designed body panels based on the underpinnings of production vehicles. This means they could come in either ICE-powered or fully electric form, depending on the wishes of each client.

The company has already given us a hint of the future strategy with the Project 24 – a track-only hypercar based on the MC20 that will be produced in a limited number of 62 units, each one uniquely specced by the Fuoriserie program. As for the special editions, the recently unveiled Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo Primaserie 75th Anniversary model is probably a sign of things to come.

If you had the deep pockets needed for such a project, what would be your brief to the Maserati Centro Stile for your dream vehicle? What about a modern reincarnation of the gorgeous Giugiaro-designed Maserati Boomerang concept from 1972?
