Nissan is reportedly planning fully electric variants of the Juke, Qashqai, and X-Trail, expected to hit the market between 2025 and 2027. The EVs will likely be sold alongside the existing e-Power hybrid variants for a few years until the ICE ban is applied in Europe.
Guillaume Cartier, head of Nissan Europe, told Autocar that the transition to electrification starts with the e-Power hybrids before moving on to BEV. He said that the company “needs to take the benefit” of an electric powertrain to the Qashqai, describing it as a natural progression. The same will reportedly happen with the smaller Juke and the larger X-Trail.

The electric SUVs are expected to ride on EV-dedicated platforms from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance which means that they will come as -indirect at launch- replacements for the existing ICE-powered and hybrid models. The second-gen Nissan Juke that appeared in 2019 is based on the CMF-B platform, while the third-gen Qashqai and four-gen X-Trail that appeared in 2021 ride on the CMF-CD.
The CMF-EV architecture that is already used in the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech could be stretched for the electric Qashqai and X-Trail. In fact, the Ariya slots right in between the smaller Qashqai and the larger X-trail in terms of footprint. As for the Juke, the CMF B-EV architecture that will soon debut in the Renault 5 supermini sounds like a more fitting option although at this point we can only speculate.
The upcoming EVs might benefit from new battery technology promised to bring “better energy density and efficiency at a lower cost” alongside fast charging rates of up to 400 kW. However, they won’t get the high-tech solid-state batteries that are expected to arrive in 2028. Still, they will offer longer driving ranges, in addition to more efficient and powerful electric motors.
Nissan wants EVs to account for more than half of its global sales by 2030, with plenty of zero-emission offerings expected in the next few years. Besides the aforementioned trio of SUVs, those will include an electric supermini set to replace the Micra, and the next generation of the Nissan Leaf.
