Nissan hasn’t offered a drop top since the 370Z Roadster was axed in 2019, but that hasn’t stopped the company from showcasing the new Max-Out convertible concept.
Unveiled as part of an event highlighting the future of sustainable mobility and innovative design, the concept was shown digitally in 2021 and has now been transformed into a physical vehicle.
Despite that, Nissan said virtually nothing about the model other than it was “designed to provide a liberating sense of openness while offering an enhanced, dynamic driving experience.” The company added the concept “displays Nissan’s innovation to develop a diverse range of advanced and striking vehicles, with a clear vision of how they can benefit both individuals and society.”

Putting the marketing hyperbole aside, the Max-Out concept is a stylish electric convertible that features a fully enclosed grille which appears to double as a digital display. This treatment can also be found on the wheel covers, which look like wormholes.
Elsewhere, we can see a distinctively styled body with long flowing lines and gentle curves. They’re joined by a minimalist windscreen and an illuminated rear panel that mimics the one up front.
The futuristic design continues in the cabin with two floating seats and geometric carpeting that looks like an optical illusion. While the latter is headache inducing, the concept has also been equipped with a yoke-style steering wheel and an expansive screen that combines a digital instrument cluster with an infotainment system.
While the concept appears to be a flight of fancy, Nissan is working to expand their electric lineup and will build two new EVs in Canton, Mississippi starting in 2025.
