Rivian’s kicking up the ire of some long-suffering customers again with another delay on its Max pack. From what it sounds like, the issue at hand isn’t one of production but rather one related to the automaker’s online configurator. Regardless of the root cause, Rivian says that it’ll update customers again in April.
In a letter first posted on RivianForums.com, the head of engineering at Rivian, Tony Caravano is credited with delivering the bad news. Reservation holders who want the Max pack will have to continue waiting.
“We are working hard to get your R1T to you as soon as possible. In January, R1T Preorder Holders with Max pack configurations were told you would receive a new delivery window estimate in late February. Unfortunately, we will need to adjust that timing to April as we continue to make the necessary changes to the configurator so you can choose between the Max pack with standard Dual-Motor or the Max pack with enhanced Dual-Motor.”

From what that sounds like, the configurator is the only real issue at this point. Nevertheless, these reservation holders will need to wait til at least April before they learn anything new from Rivian itself. Caravano continued in the email saying “Once these changes are complete, we’ll reach out during our regularly scheduled April refresh with your new delivery window estimate. Please visit the Support Center for more on delivery timing estimates, or feel free to reach out.”
That doesn’t seem to be sitting well with many reservation holders on the forum. “I wonder if the Max Pack or the Cybertruck will get here first…” said the original poster. “Rivian’s behavior is indistinguishable from a bait and switch, there should be an investigation,” said another.
At the same time that all of this is going on Rivian also reminded its reservation holders that they can give up on their hope of having a Max pack and just get a new Rivian that’s readily available. “We’d like to remind you that your invitation to the R1 Shop remains active. New vehicles that are ready to deliver are available for your consideration.”
