The Subaru Solterra’s rocky launch continues as the automaker is warning some customers not to drive the electric crossover.

According to the automaker, the latest recall is the result of an earlier recall that wasn’t handled properly by a third-party contractor.  As Subaru explained, the original recall required the hub bolts to be replaced, but they “identified an issue with vehicles repaired at two port locations by one particular team of contractors.”

Subaru didn’t identify the third-party contractor, but said their team “did not properly complete the repair procedure resulting in the potential for significantly under-torqued bolts.”  This is a serious safety issue, which could potentially result in an accident.

The recall impacts 1,182 Solterras from the 2023 model year and the company is telling customers not to drive the vehicle until it’s inspected and determined to be safe.  Affected owners are being advised to contact their dealership, who will arrange to have the Solterra towed to their facility.  Technicians will then inspect the hub bolts and, if necessary, tighten them.

Subaru will be contacting owners by mail, although customers can get a more immediate answer by entering their VIN into either Subaru’s recall website or the one hosted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Customers can also call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.

As a refresher, the original recall impacted around 2,600 Solterras globally and resulted in production being paused for three months.
