None of us get excited to take our car into the shop for a repair. Some of us even hate taking it in for routine maintenance. Despite being a necessary evil at times, these horror stories of times that you took your car into the shop remind us why it can be an anxiety-inducing experience.
Ben kicked things off, reminding us of a time when he dropped off his work truck only to return later with far less fuel because the shop left it running basically all day. That might be the most mundane of the stories though because coming in next was BeerThirty247 who said that one shop put gear lube in his transmission and then lied to him about doing it.
Bolts and torquing things down seem to be a big problem for lots of places though. SteersUright says that one shop replaced his front brake pads but forgot to torque down the caliper bolts on one side. Needless to say, that could’ve resulted in an accident if it hadn’t been caught the very next day.

JohnTaurus had a story a step worse though: “shop in Dallas GA loosened a hub bolt because I declined an unnecessary repair. Could’ve killed me and/or others. They knew I was on a road trip. Discovered it several states away when the assembly nearly fell off. The opposite side they’d worked on, so it was intentional.”
Nicholas takes the proverbial cake though and deserves it after what he endured. According to him, he took his car to the shop one morning. Knowing that he’d be dropping it off, he brought his bicycle along with him to commute to work. On his way back to the shop to pick the car up at the end of the day, someone from the shop driving his own car hit him while he was riding.
It’s one thing for your car to come out worse for wear after a visit to the repair shop. It’s a whole different thing for you yourself to walk away with injuries. Thanks for sharing Nicholas.
Now we have two requests, if we missed your horror story feel free to include it below. In addition, if you’ve ever had a shockingly great experience at a repair shop we’d love to hear about that over on this post. It seems that good experiences are few and far between judging by the comment section.
