The 2024 Ford Mustang will reportedly not be available with AM radio, following in the footsteps of the Ford F-150 Lightning that’s also not available with what has long been a standard feature on almost all new vehicles.
Word of the AM radio receiver not being found in the 2024 Mustang came after members of the Mustang7G forum got their hands on the order guide for the new pony car. Interestingly, Ford hasn’t provided an official explanation as to why AM radio has been dropped.
Ford Authority notes that the most likely explanation is that Ford simply doesn’t believe enough 2024 Mustang owners will use AM radio to justify the cost of sourcing and fitting AM radio receivers. Thanks to the rise in popularity of music streaming services, as well as satellite radio, fewer people listen to AM radio nowadays.
When Ford dropped AM radio from the 2023 F-150 Lightning, it said it was doing so because the AM radio frequencies could interfere with its all-electric powertrain. We suspect that the car manufacturer also viewed it as a small and easy cost-saving measure that could be made.
