The Subaru GL / Leone, the predecessor of the Impreza, was available in hatchback, sedan, and wagon bodystyles, but an owner from the US created a unique pickup conversion, which is now offered for sale.
According to the listing on Facebook Marketplace, the vehicle is located in Harrisburg, Ohio. The fact that it only has 1,042 miles (1,677 km) on the clock after almost four decades makes it even more desirable and explains the pristine condition of both the exterior and the interior.

The model started its life as a regular Subaru GL Wagon, but the rear portion of the roof and d-pillars have been cut off, transforming the boot area into a rear bed. The resulting build is not a traditional dual-cab pickup but more of a landaulet, since there is no rear windscreen. The seatbacks of the second-row bench are protruding, but the current owner suggests that a canvas top could solve this issue.
The lower part of the tailgate is mounted to the rear quarter panels so the tailgate cannot open anymore. Still, the low height of the car means that you can easily access the rear bed from all three sides. The rest of the bodywork appears to be in stock condition, as with the original hubcaps, lighting units, and unpainted bumpers. The interior looks like it just came out of the factory floor with its gray seat upholstery and shiny plastics.
The unique Subaru GL pickup is front-wheel-drive, with a five-speed manual transmission. There is no information about the powertrain which is likely the stock naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter or 1.8-liter four-cylinder mill. Would you spend $7,500 on this Subaru landaulet or opt for a regular wagon instead?
