After years of delays and missed targets, Faraday Future has finally started producing the FF 91 Futurist. The startup’s first production vehicle, it initially plans to offer the new EV in the U.S. and in China.
Faraday Future it has been the center of a significant amount of drama, including inflation of reservation numbers, and the dismissal of its CEO. It unveiled the “production intent” FF 91 Futurist in February 2022, but even that caused difficulties for the company as it said that the vehicle would start production in the fall of 2022, but later pushed that date back.
However, the first examples of the all-electric vehicle are now rolling through the production line at Faraday Future‘s Hanford, California plant. The company will begin by selling the FF 91 Futurist in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Shanghai, and Beijing. The U.S. and China are the world’s biggest markets for EVs.

“Start of Production (SOP) of the FF 91 Futurist Alliance marks FF’s most solid step as a disruptor of the traditional ultra-luxury automotive civilization,” said YT Jia, Faraday Future’s founder. “This shows that FF has entered a new phase under the governance and operation of the new board and management. We believe FF will quickly restore its due value to the marketplace.”
The FF 91 Futurist will have an estimated range of 381 miles (613 km), and will make up to 1,050 hp (783 kW/1,065 PS). That’s enough to get it off the line and up to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.27 seconds, Faraday Future claims.
More than just a fast EV, the FF 91 Futurist is conceived of as a “third internet living space” that complements the owner’s “home and smartphone experiences.” That means an array of screens for the front seat occupants, as well as a 27-inch cinema screen that fold down from the ceiling for rear seat passengers.
The automaker will host a final launch event for the new vehicle on April 26, 2023, at which time initial deliveries are expected to begin.
