Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you may have heard that automotive YouTuber Rob Dahm has finally finished building his insane four-rotor Mazda RX-7.
Bringing the insane RX-7 to life took many years of blood, sweat, and tears and not long after we had the chance to see the car pumping out 1,145 hp on a dyno, Dahm brought his whip to the Hoonigan team for a race against a modified Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
Dahm built his RX-7 to thrive in various kinds of motorsport and was able to see what the car is capable of in a straight-line against the Jeep. Both cars are extraordinarily fast but it is the Mazda that ultimately proves to have the upper hand.

In the first of the three races, both the Jeep and Mazda rocket off the line neck-and-neck but as the race progresses, the Mazda is able to make the most of its extra power and starts to pull ahead. The tables are then turned in the second race when the driver of the Jeep gets the hit and is able to cross the finish line first.
The third and final race was the most telling. Front differential issues forced Dahm to disable the RX-7’s all-wheel drive system in preparation for the race, meaning he was left to drive it in rear-wheel drive mode. While you may think that would put it at a distinct disadvantage to the all-wheel drive Jeep, Dahm is able to keep the car under control despite all its power and ultimately takes the victory in a very competitive race.
