If the Hummer EV wasn’t heavy enough in standard form, GMC is working on a motorhome conversion in collaboration with the Australian company EarthCruiser. The model appeared in a cryptic teaser and will be unveiled in concept form in late summer 2023.
The GMC Hummer EV Overlander will be based on the pickup, taking advantage of the longer wheelbase and overall length compared to the smaller SUV. From the shadowy teaser, we can see that the rear bed is fully covered, with what looks like storage compartments on the sides and solar panels on the roof. The latter could produce enough energy for the motorhome’s needs so that the battery of the EV is preserved for driving.

The electric motorhome concept was developed by GMC in collaboration with EarthCruiser Innovations. The press release didn’t give away many details about the project, but said that the “overlanding upfit solution” that will be integrated into the Hummer EV Pickup will allow customers to “explore the world in a new way”. While the vehicle is a concept, EarthCruiser plans to offer a similar kit in the future if enough interest is generated. After all, the company recently announced a slide-in camper kit for electric pickups that could be compatible with various models.
Lance Gillies, CEO and Founder of EarthCruiser said: “As we consider the future of overlanding, we are continuing to look toward key technologies like electrification that will help us explore for decades to come. Electrification presents exciting opportunities for overland use, such as precise torque control over terrain and ease-of-use, in addition to zero-tailpipe emissions. We’re thrilled to be working with GM’s team of top-tier EV engineers and look to develop an overland vehicle that’s truly made for, and will define, the future of this industry.”
