The C8 Chevy Corvette Z06 hasn’t been in the hands of customers for long and it has already proven itself to perhaps be the very finest performance car built in the U.S. However, is it actually worth $40,000 more than the entry-level Corvette Stingray?

Eager to see how the two Chevys perform against each other, Edmunds brought the two along for a couple of performance tests and while the results probably won’t shock you, it is still a very entertaining video to watch.

In the test, the two cars are pitted against each other in a drag race from a standing start and then have to perform a U-turn before sprinting back to the start line. Both launch off the line very well but after the first 50 feet or so, the Z06 begins to pull away. The driver was also able to brake harder in it than the Stingray’s driver and was also able to complete the U-turn at a much higher speed. The Z06 ends up taking quite a comfortable victory.

In this race, the Z06 was able to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.1 seconds while the Stingray needed 3.3 seconds. The former also beat the base car down the quarter-mile, recording a time of 10.7 seconds at 130.5 mph compared to the 11.4 second time of the Stingray at 120.3 mph.

The Corvette Z06 ended up completing the test in 31.4 seconds, crossing the finish line at 145.2 mph, and putting it two seconds ahead of the Stingray with its time of 33.4 seconds at 133.6 mph. To put these times into perspective, the fastest car tested by Edmunds was the McLaren 765LT, recording a time of 29.6 seconds at 158.8 mph a few weeks ago.
