One car enthusiast in Australia, has experienced every car lover’s worst nightmare. After dropping off their car, a 1986 Holden Commodore VL, for a service, they returned to discover that a mechanic had crashed it.

Footage of the car from Australia’s 7News in the wake of the accident shows significant damage to the front end, with the hood bent up, and the crash structure collapsed. In addition, damage can be seen on the rear of the car, with the trunk lid bent upwards and the bumper hanging off the car. Not the improvement the owner was hoping for, certainly.

The mechanic is said to have been taking the car out for a spin in Ormeau, which is on the Gold Coast near Brisbane, when he lost control and went careening into three other vehicles, causing damage to them, too.

While any owner would surely be crestfallen to have their car destroyed by a mechanic, the owner of this example will be particularly dismayed. As reported by CarExpert, the classic Holden is said to be worth as much as $150,000 AUD ($100,635 USD at current exchange rates).

The final iteration of the first-generation Commodore, the VL was made from 1986-1988. Although further details on this particular model weren’t available, the car was offered with a 5.0-liter V8 equipped with a Rochester four-barrel carburetor that was good for 164 hp (122 kW/166 PS) from the factory.

Police are still investigating how the crash happened. As it stands, no charges have been laid.
