Dodge has taken wraps off the new 2024 Hornet R/T GLH Concept, which seeks to show off what its in-house tuners, Direct Connection, can achieve with the plug-hybrid version of the compact crossover.
Following up on the gas-only Hornet GT GLH concept, the name is a reference to the 1984-1986 Dodge Omni GLH. Modified by none other than Carroll Shelby, the name stood for “Goes Like Hell,” a reference to the early hot hatch’s higher power and performance.
Despite it’s name, Dodge has not made any reference to increasing the power for the Hornet R/T GLH Concept (or the GT GLH). Instead, the focus appears to be on other modifications such as a lowering kit with new front and rear springs to improve handling dynamics by lowering the center of gravity. Both the R/T GLH and GT GLH also feature an unrestricted exhaust system that promises to deliver a more muscular engine sound.

The wheels are Direct Connection’s own 20-inch units, and their face is machine-finished. To go with that, the Hornet gets special GLH graphics that include black racing stripes, with a red pinstripe that spells out the special edition’s name, as well as a unique Red Hornet badge.
While Dodge hasn’t mentioned any power upgrades, the Hornet R/T’s Alfa Romeo-derived plug-in powertrain is still impressive. The powertrain combines a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo with an electric motor on the back axle, producing a total output of 288 hp (214 kW/292 PS) and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque. This torque output is only 12 lb-ft (16 Nm) less than what a Dodge Charger R/T’s V8 engine can deliver.
Previously, Dodge had given the same GLH tuning treatment to the Hornet GT. It featured the same suspension modifications, wheels, and accents, but its internal combustion-only powertrain makes 268 hp (200 kW/272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
The price associated with these GLH packages has not yet been revealed, nor has a timeline for their availability. The GLH models do, however, offer a glimpse into what Direct Connection will be offering in a post Charger and Challenger world through Dodge “Power Broker” dealerships, which can provide modifications like these and still offer a three-year factory-backed warranty.
