As a getaway car the Tesla Model X has plenty going for it. A six-seat layout means it has enough space for a big crew or a ton of swag, the handling is secure and there’s plenty of performance on tap courtesy of the bi-motor drivetrain. Even the stock Model X gets to 60 mph (96 kph) in 3.8 seconds, while the 1,020 hp (1,034 PS) Plaid can do the job in 2.5 seconds and demolish a quarter mile in less than 10.
And with the rear gullwing doors closed the Model X is anonymous enough to easily blend into traffic thanks to Tesla’s bland styling, stingy color options and the sheer number of the things around. All of you’ve to remember to do is charge the thing up (or steal one with plenty of charge) before you head out on your mission. Which is where the best laid plans of two Georgia villains went awry.
Officers from Gwinnett County North Precinct responded to a report that multiple games consoles had been stolen and were told by witnesses that the thieves had made their hasty exit in a Tesla. That bit of information was then broadcast to other police patrols in the surrounding area, one of which turned up the hapless pair trying to charge their Model X not far from the store where the robbery took place.

Police recovered the stolen game consoles but on searching the car found a nice bonus in the firm of several handguns and 2 lbs (0.9 kg) of what officers suspected to be marijuana. The thieves were arrested and charged with multiple offenses and are likely to be given extended stays at the kind of Georgia hotel where the guests all where orange jumpsuits, which should give both men plenty of time to charge their batteries.
