Quite often, some of the classic cars that we come across for sale on various auction platforms can be described as being in very good condition. However, this 1989 BMW M3 Convertible is special because it is in pristine condition and when we say pristine, we really mean it.

You see, this M3 hasn’t simply been well-maintained by its previous owners and given a quick detail before being listed for sale. Instead, it underwent a comprehensive restoration by BMW Group Classic between January 2018 and December 2020. You won’t find many other E30 M3s to be restored by the car manufacturer itself.

The car has been listed for sale through Collecting Cars. The listing reveals that during the car’s lifetime, it was fitted with an M5 engine and transmission but as part of the restoration, an original S14 four-cylinder M3 engine and transmission were re-installed. Adding to the appeal of the car is a lovely shade dubbed Macau Blue Metallic with a dark blue fabric roof and the original wheels which have been refurbished.

BMW Group Classic did lots more to the car than simply install a new engine and transmission. It also overhauled the oil cooler pips, replaced the propshaft, renewed the mufflers, and replaced key parts like the windshield, fog lights, hood, steering wheel, steering column, shift knob, and the onboard computer and temperature gauge. Importantly, BMW Group Classic also removed all rust from the car and also went to the trouble of fitting new sound and heat insulation in the engine compartment.

The exterior of the car is complemented by a lovely interior complete with plenty of black leather components that only show modest wear. The listing notes that it is also being sold with a spare wheel and jack. It’s been driven 80,407 km (49,962 miles) and is one of just 781 E30 M3 Convertible models ever produced.
