This is the latest electrified SUV from China. It is dubbed the Shenlan S7 and has been brought to life by the brand operated by Changan, CATL, and Huawei and serves as the automaker’s second model, following in the footsteps of the SL03 sedan.
Chinese car manufacturers have made a name for themselves in recent years by designing and producing vehicles that look truly unique. With the S7, we have quite an imposing mid-sized SUV that has an exterior appearance quite similar to the SL03 sedan.
With this in mind, the S7 has quite a tall and dramatic front fascia with sporty LED headlights and big gloss black air intake surrounds that also house the fog lights. While there’s no traditional grille, the S7 still looks quite nice. Elsewhere, you will notice that it sports gloss black wheel arches and eye-catching 20-inch wheels with a black and silver finish. Other key design details of the SUV include the sleek C-pillars, the intriguing LED taillights and light bar, and the striking diffuser.

Car News China reports that two variants of the S7 will be built. The first version will be powered solely by electricity and deliver 258 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque but it is not yet known how large its battery pack is nor how much range it has. Then there is the range-extender EV version that uses an electric motor with 258 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) as well as a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 95 hp. Details about this variant’s range and battery capacity also remain a mystery.
The interior of the Shenlan S7 is just as impressive as the exterior. Among the key features are the two-spoke steering wheel, a large Head-Up Display, a landscape-oriented infotainment screen, two wireless charging pads, and a dashboard completely void of buttons and switches. The S7 also lacks inner door handles and occupants simply need to press a button to open or close the door.
The new SUV will make its public debut at April’s Shanghai Auto Show before Chinese sales start soon after. Prices are expected to kick off from around 160,000 Yuan ($23,600).
