The VW Tiguan is in its twilight years but before the next generation debuts sometime in 2024, the automaker launched the new Black Edition trim in the UK, slotting between the R-Line and the full-blown R in the SUV’s local lineup.

Predictably, the new trim of VW’s best-selling model is characterized by stealthy looks as a darker take on the sporty R-Line bodykit. More specifically, the bumper trim, mirror caps window frames, roof rails, and exhaust pipes are all finished in black, combined with the 20-inch Suzuka Black alloy wheels. The grille has high-gloss black and chrome accents, while the SUV comes standard with a panoramic sunroof and 90% tinted rear privacy glass.

VW Tiguan Black Edition Is The New Sinister-Looking Flagship Trim Besides The R

The dark theme continues inside the cabin, with Carbon Gray inserts on the dashboard and door cards plus a black roofliner. Standard equipment includes heated sport comfort seats, a heated and leather-wrapped sports steering wheel with the infamous touch-sensitive buttons, a digital instrument cluster, and the 9.2-inch Discover Media Navigation infotainment.

The Black Edition is initially available with the 1.5 TSI petrol or the 2.0 TDI diesel, both producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and sending power to the front axle exclusively through a seven-speed DSG automatic. Later on, it will also become available in AWD flavor (with the 4Motion system), with either the 2.0 TSI petrol producing 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) or the 2.0 TDI in two power outputs with 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 197 hp (147 kW / 200 PS).

The VW Tiguan Black Edition is already available in the UK, priced from £37,325 ($44,737). This is £4535 ($5,435) more expensive than the entry-level Life with the same engine/gearbox configuration. Mind you, the Tiguan is not the first SUV by Volkswagen that gains a Black Edition trim in the UK, as similar versions have been offered for the T-Cross, the T-Roc, and the Touareg.
