It’s not every day that anybody with the cash has the opportunity to buy a completely unused Ferrari FXX V12. Nevertheless, that’s exactly what’s up for grabs later this month in London. The engine will likely cross the auction block for about the same price as many brand-new (and complete) supercars.
Lot number 141 at RM Sotheby’s March 22nd through March 29th auction in London is this new old stock (NOS) Tipo F140 DA Ferrari FXX V12 engine. Ferrari fans might know that the F140 designation dates to the early 2000s and its introduction in the Enzo. What they might not know is that the DA in this engine’s code is what links it directly to the FXX.
As such, it displaces 6,262 ccs or 6.3 liters and creates 789 hp (588 kW) at 8,500 RPM along with 505 lb-ft (686 Nm) of torque at 5,750 RPM. It accomplishes those feats without the use of electrification, turbocharging, or supercharging too. That makes it one of the most impressive NA V12s ever made and now, it can be yours. If you have the cash that is.

RM Sotheby’s has guidance on this engine of $240,000-$400,000. For that chunk of change, you’ll get what is said to be the first complete NOS Ferrari FXX engine to ever be offered for sale to the public. It comes complete with its full wiring loom, engine inlets, and airbox. In fact, the listing says that it’s already mounted for display should someone simply want to put it in a showroom. It is, after all, a work of art.
As we can see from the photos, the engine looks like it’s just come off of the factory floor. There’s no telling what it might take to get it prepared for actual use in a real road-going car though. What we do know from the listing on RM Sotherby’s is that the buyer’s premium for the auction is 20 percent on top of whatever the final price ends up being.
That’s right… If this thing goes for what RM Sotheby’s expects, it’ll cost as much as Lamborghini Huracan Technica and could end up being north of what it would cost to pick up a brand-new Ferrari F8 too. So with that in mind, what’s the wildest build you can think of with this lump in the engine bay?
In our eyes, and at this kind of price point, it would have to be something equally wild. Maybe there’s a Ferrari 250 GTO out there somewhere in need of an engine. This would certainly be one wild way to solve such a problem.
