Automotive design isn’t the easiest thing in the world to get right. Plenty of cars, trucks, and SUVs underwhelm us with boring styling, poorly executed features, or lackluster performance. Which infamous car didn’t deserve all of the hate it got though? That’s the focus of our question of the day.

Our lead image shows one of the most maligned cars of its kind. The Plymouth Prowler will forever be known as the hot rod that never got the V8 it deserved. Still, we think there’s a good case for it being better than its reputation.

Perhaps no car deserved less hate than the Pontiac Aztek though. Sure, it was wildly ugly for its day but that’s only because it was so far ahead of its time that nobody got it. Buyers could get them with a factory-issued tent and air mattress. Today, they really don’t look out of place next to modern SUVs… aside from the fact that they wear a badge from a car company that died all too soon.

There are plenty of other potential contenders too. The 996 Porsche 911 with its runny egg headlights is still a killer sports car. The Pontiac Fiero with its mid-mounted V6 might not be as fast or sharp as European rivals but it was bold and a huge step up from the four-cylinder version.
