The Porsche 911 Turbo S has long been one of the most-accelerative production cars on sale, capable of scampering off the line at a truly frightening pace. However, electric vehicles have come so far in recent years that now, a Tesla Model X Plaid can give a 911 Turbo S a run for its money.
The crew from DragTimes recently headed out onto a drag strip and set about seeing just how well matched the Model X Plaid is with a 911 Turbo S. However it was no ordinary 911 Turbo S that was featured and instead one that has been tuned to churn out 1,000 hp.

The first of the three races is the closest. Both the Tesla and the Porsche rocketed off the line and while the driver of the 911 short-shifted on a couple of occasions, it narrowly came out on top, crossing the quarter-mile in 9.90 seconds compared to the 10.0-seconds of the Tesla. While both times are impressive, a stock 911 Turbo S is also capable of a sub-10-second quarter-mile, so this tuned example obviously has more performance up its sleeve.
Things didn’t go so well in the second race for the Porsche driver as he messed up changing into 2nd gear, giving the Tesla an easy win. It was in the third race that the 911 really showed what it is capable of.
After nailing the launch, the driver records a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 2.18 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 9.56 seconds at 144.95 mph (233.2 km/h) compared to the 9.96-second run of the Tesla with its 140.84 mph (226.6 km/h) trap speed.
