The latest free update for Gran Turismo 7 will bring one new road car, and three new racecars, as well as a collection of other bits and bobs. The part that will excite supercar fans the most is likely the addition of the 1992 Jaguar XJ220, though.
The legendary road car was developed to essentially be a Group C car for the road. Built by Jaguar Sport, the chassis was made of an aluminum honeycomb structure with carbon Kevlar for added strength, just like its racecar at the time.
Despite not coming with the V12 that was first promised in 1988, the production car’s 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 was no slouch. It was based on the same engine that powered the XJR11 Group C car, and made 542 hp (405 kW/550 PS) on the road. That was good enough to get the car up to a claimed top speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT3 also joins the fleet of vehicles offered in Gran Turismo 7. Featuring improved aerodynamics and reliability than the car it replaced in real life, the racecar was intended to be a more cost-effective customer racecar. Designed to take on the best of the FIA GT3 class, the car will no doubt be a welcome addition for players of the game’s online Sport mode.
Those players will also doubtless be happy to see the two Dallara SF23 Super Formula cars, that are differentiated by their Toyota or Honda powerplant. The open-wheel racecar is the latest to compete in the top class of Japanese formula racing. In addition to a number of efforts to make the car more sustainable, the aerodynamics were improved to encourage more wheel to wheel racing.
Elsewhere, two new GT Café menus have been added that focus on the vehicles of Shelby and Alpine. Players from the U.K. will have more to celebrate than just the Jaguar, with a new “Scapes” scene (a background against which to take photos of cars) that is set in North Yorkshire. A more agricultural background has also been added, that is intended to recreate the Japanese coast.
The updates will all be added for free on April 26, 2023, at 10 p.m. PST (1:00 a.m. EST).
