VW has some bad news for owners of the 2022 Taos, announcing a new recall because of an issue with the fuel pump.

The German car manufacturer has revealed that the fuel delivery module inside the fuel tank could break while the SUV is being driven. This will trigger a Check Engine and/or EPC light on the instrument panel and could result in a sudden loss of power. Importantly, VW says that the fuel delivery module issue does not trigger a fuel leak.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that a sudden loss of power can lead to a crash. Impacted VW Taos models were manufactured between March 24, 2021, and August 11, 2021, with a total of 15,874 vehicles being recalled.

VW’s recall notice reveals that the fuel delivery module could break for one of three reasons. It could get stuck due to a small gap between the impeller and casing, it may get stuck because of a deformed impeller, or it could get stuck because of foreign pieces of aluminum and zinc.

VW first became aware of a potential issue in December last year when it was informed by the NHTSA about complaints of Taos vehicles stalling while driving. It was quickly determined that the fuel pump issue was the cause of the problems.

Dealers and owners of affected models will be informed of the recall on or before May 26. Dealers will be instructed to replace the affected fuel delivery unit at no charge to customers. The carmaker will also offer a reimbursement plan for those who have already paid to have the issue fixed.
