Mitsubishi is ready to step back into the sub-compact (or supermini in European terms ) segment, bringing the Colt nameplate back from the dead with a French twist. The new model is set to debut on June 8 and will be a rebadged version of the soon-to-be-facelifted Renault Clio, featuring a hybrid powertrain option

The automaker published another teaser of the Colt on its German website, revealing a section of the tailgate and a countdown for its launch date. Originally confirmed in April 2022 through a dark teaser, the sub-compact hatch resurfaced during Mitsubishi’s announcement of 16 new production models by 2025 in March 2023. The visuals showcased in the presentation offered a better glimpse of the exterior design.

2023 Mitsubishi Colt Debuts On June 8 As Renault Clio’s Twin With Hybrid Option

Predictably, the Mitsubishi Colt shares the majority of its body panels with the updated version of the Renault Clio as the latest example of badge engineering. Differences between the two are expected to be limited to the grille and Mitsubishi emblems, similar to the strategy used for the Renault Captur and Mitsubishi ASX, which share the same CMF-B architecture.(CMF-B architecture).

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the upcoming Colt will feature multiple powertrain options, including a self-charging hybrid system. These should include a turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol with 90 hp (67 kW / 91 PS) and a 1.6-liter hybrid with 143 hp (107 kW / 145 PS), which are identical to the options offered by the Renault Clio. The automaker has also promised that the supermini will come with extensive equipment, likely including a fully digital cockpit and numerous comfort and safety features.

The new Mitsubishi Colt is set to hit the European market in autumn 2023, and will be produced alongside the Renault Clio at the Bursa factory in Turkey. The sub-compact hatchback will compete with rivals such as the Peugeot 208, VW Polo, Skoda Fabia, Seat Ibiza, Toyota Yaris, and others.
