The Formentor was Cupra’s first standalone model and the crossover is about to receive a minor facelift.
Recently spied undergoing testing on and around the Nürburgring, the updated Formentor has a heavily disguised front fascia that hides a number of changes. While the vertical air curtains appear to carryover, we can get a glimpse of a new bumper and a revised intake. The latter features horizontal and diagonal lines that appear to be echoed in reverse on the updated grille.
Additional details are hard to make out, but we can expect new headlights and lightly revised taillights. The rear logo is also camouflaged and appears larger than before.

We can’t see much inside, but the current model has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by sport seats, a sport steering wheel, and an ambient lighting system.
There’s no word on performance changes at this point, but the current Formentor is offered with an assortment of different powertrains including an entry-level 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder that develops 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. It can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG transmission. With the latter gearbox, the crossover runs from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.9 seconds before topping out at 126 mph (203 km/h).
Customers can also opt for a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder with 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque or a 2.0-liter TDI with 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque. There’s also a plug-in hybrid variant, which has a 1.4-liter TSI engine, an electric motor, and a 12.8 kWh battery pack. This gives the model a combined output of 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and an electric-only range of 36.7 miles (59 km).
If that’s not enough variety, the Formentor VZ offers three different powertrains including a high-performance 2.0-liter TSI pumping out 306 hp (228 kW / 310 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a seven-speed DSG transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system. This allows the crossover to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
