Hyundai recently revealed the updated Elantra / Avante and it’s now the turn of the performance-focused N variant to show its aggressive styling at the Shanghai Auto Show, less than two years after the debut of the original.
The sporty sedan adopts the redesigned bonnet and headlights of the lesser trims, albeit with a new version of the N-specific bodykit which signals its performance credentials. Another new feature is the 19-inch alloy wheels, with five round holes reminiscent of Alfa Romeo and black N emblems on the center caps.
The motorsport-inspired looks are accentuated by the red splitter, side skirts and rear bumper extensions, contrasting the black elements on the bumpers. The black trim surrounds the large intakes and slimmer grille at the front, while expanding to a much larger section at the rear bumper. The model also retains the black rear spoiler, the diffuser, and the dual exhaust pipes.

Hyundai highlighted the visual updates in official photos and video, showing the Elantra N next to the racing version. However, the automaker didn’t reveal anything about the performance of the updated model.
Chances are that the 2024 Hyundai Elantra N will inherit the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine of its predecessor which is good for up to 286 hp (213 kW / 289 PS) and 392 Nm (289 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front axle through either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with the help of an electronic limited-slip differential. This setup allows a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The punchy powertrain is combined with an N-specific suspension and brakes, although the chassis setup could be revised for even sharper driving dynamics.
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra N is expected to debut in North America later this year alongside the lesser Elantra trims. The model will also be available in Korea as the Avante N, and in Australia as the i30 Sedan N.
