The second vehicle in Lucid’s lineup has reached a new milestone, the automaker announced today. The Gravity, an all-electric SUV with seating for up to seven passengers, is now testing on public roads throughout the U.S.
“I am excited to see the Gravity SUV moving forward so quickly in its development, as it builds upon everything this company has achieved thus far and drives further advancements of our in house technology to create a luxury electric SUV like none other,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group. “The Lucid Air redefined the sedan category, and as our technology continues to evolve and lead the market, we are in a place where the Gravity is positioned to change the world of SUVs.”
The Gravity will be based on the same platform as the Lucid Air but will be capable of carrying seven adults comfortably, as well as all their gear. Lucid promises that it will be able to go farther per charge than any electric SUV on the market today.

In 2021, the company’s vice president of design, Derek Jenkins, said that it wanted more than 400 miles (644 km) out of the vehicle. That shouldn’t be too tall an order for Lucid, whose Air can go up to 516 miles (830 km) per charge, though it has some aerodynamic advantages over an SUV.
Lucid promises that, in addition to having exceptional range, the Gravity will also be great to drive. Despite sitting seven, it says that the SUV will have the driving dynamics of a sports car.
Inside, the Gravity will also be a tech showcase for the brand. It will introduce Lucid’s new Glass Cockpit high-resolution display. The automaker says that the technology will show off the next generation of Lucid UX, its software interface.
Reservations for the Lucid Gravity are expected to open this year, though the model isn’t expected to arrive until 2024.
