A potent successor to the Range Rover Sport SVR will be presented to the world on May 31 and serve as the “most dynamic and technologically advanced Range Rover Sport ever.”
The new model will ditch the ‘R’ from its name and simply be known as the Range Rover Sport SV. Land Rover will initially only sell it via invitation with a limited-edition specification before it is introduced more widely. The carmaker adds that it “will introduce a number of innovative world-first, sector-first and Range Rover-first technologies that unlock the assertive model’s full performance potential.”
Land Rover will not announce full details about the punchy SUV until the end of next month, but thanks to our spy photographers and sources, we already have a good idea of what to expect.
First and foremost, the Range Rover Sport SV is expected to drop the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 of the old SVR and replace it with a mild-hybrid twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 shared with the BMW X5 M Competition. While we don’t know exactly how much grunt this model will have, the BMW delivers 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque so similar figures can be expected. Drive will obviously be sent through all four wheels.

The new flagship model will also be differentiated from the standard Range Rover Sport thanks to some unique design elements. These should include a new bumper with enlarged air intakes and a blacked-out grille. It will also come standard with a beefed-up braking system to ensure it can come to a stop just as well as it can fire off the line. Quad exhausts will also come standard.
Limited changes will be made in the cabin of the Range Rover Sport SV and as such, it will continue to rock the automaker’s current 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system working alongside a 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster.
