Long before folks thought Elon Musk was a bit unusual for his behavior they thought he was unusual for his desire to turn a large fortune into a small fortune by building the Tesla Roadster. Today, those two-door drop-top cars are hard to come by in excellent condition but one just popped up on Bring-a-Trailer. And with just 8,000 miles on the odometer, it could bring big money.
Keep in mind that this car is one of the ones that ultimately led to the electric car revolution. When the Roadster came out, Musk made promises that he couldn’t keep. The car ended up costing more than it originally was supposed to. And it’s not as fast as what the brand builds now.
Nevertheless, it’s still part of the only generation of Roadster ever actually produced by Tesla and this one is in pretty stellar shape. Fully charged it indicates that it’ll go 226 miles or around 95 percent of its original range. It’s factory rated at 288 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque too. It’s a fun and functional little package.

In fact, this model, the Roadster 2.5 Sport, is the final version before Tesla ended production and ultimately became the company we know (and some love too much) today. The example we have here features Radiant Red paint, tan leather upholstery, and a removable cloth roof panel.
As of this writing, the top bid in the auction on BaT sits at $120,420 and other recent auctions have seen similar prices. What makes this one stand out is just how well-preserved it is. It wouldn’t be wild to see a hardcore Tesla enthusiast snatch it up for $140k or more.
The comment section points out that the undercarriage of this car demonstrates what museum quality should look like. The suspension parts still have their original paper stickers which are incredibly rare. Considering all of this, what would you pay for one of the cars that led to the electric car revolution?
