Passenger displays are one of the hottest trends in the automotive industry and we’re seeing them offered on an increasing number of vehicles.
The latest is the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, which will be offered with an optional 10.9-inch passenger display. It’s integrated into the dashboard and allows front seat occupants to watch streaming videos as well as operate the navigation system, so they can act as a co-driver.
The Cayenne is far from alone as the Mercedes EQS and EQS SUV offer an MBUX Hyperscreen with a 12.3-inch passenger display. Jeep offers one in the Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, while Ferrari has one in the Roma.

Those are just a few examples, but do you like passenger displays and would you ever get a vehicle with one? The most obvious answer is no as they’re completely unnecessary and can cost more than $1,000. On top of that, some people prefer the look of a traditional dashboard rather than a pillar-to-pillar display.
That being said, if you find yourself in the front passenger seat often, they’re likely a blessing if they offer streaming video. Sure, you could easily watch videos on your phone, but it’s so much nicer on a larger display that you don’t have to hold in your hands.
As someone who spends far too much time on airplanes, think of them as seatback displays. You don’t need one, but you’ll definitely want one if you’re going to be stuck in your seat for a few hours.
With all that being said, what are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
